Well 2007 has been a massive year. A colossal year. A year of extreme changes, both internally and externally.
I was writing out a list of all the things that happened this year, and then stopped and deleted them. Things will always happen. Some years will be bigger than others.
One of the biggest and most important changes that occurred this year however, was an internal one. I started learning about money, about economics, about business and capitalism, and about the history of our econo-politico system over the last hundred years. It was through this learning that my progressive tendencies became a lot more directed and informed.

I have recently begun learning about economics. I have begun exploring, in depth, the machinations and intricacies of our current economic system (free-market capitalism) and evaluating its merits.
Just before Christmas I found this article on the Business Spectator site, a new financial outlet featuring contributions from people like Alan Kohler and Robert Gottliebson. The article is basically a press release put out by “The Center for Independent Studies,” an Australian neo-liberal free-market lobby-group. The article aims to allay our fears about getting swept up in the greedy push towards overconsumption during the Christmas period, giving Carte Blanche to capitalism and its celebrants.
I found the article to be pretty disgusting, not to mention misleading, and felt compelled to write a reply and submit it to the Business Spectator. I actually expected them not to publish it, and was surprised when they did.
Merry Christmas!
